12th May is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, considered to be the founder of nursing as an honourable profession.
This birthday is now celebrated across the world as the ‘International Day of the Nurse’.
People who dedicated their professional life to this, the most humane of professions, are characterised by their compassion, patience, sympathy for and empathy towards the people they serve. In our modern times, they also need to be highly knowledgeable and professional in their work. Nurses and Certificate IV Nurses’s Aids working at St Sergius, undoubtedly demonstrate all of the above traits.
This year’s award in the Registered Nurse category went to Eloise Silvosa and in the Certificate IV category, the winner was Halyna Lyutenko.
In making the presentations, our Director of Care, Natalya Zaytseva said: – “Thankyou everyone for the commitment and compassion you have demonstrated in your difficult and intense work. It is extremely hard to choose one or two of you as being ‘the best’, because all of you are ’the best’.
